One-to-one Devices

Our Philosophy
We are excited to enhance our personalized learning through our 1 to 1 initiative that began in the 20147-2018 school year.  Through research and visits to other schools and a careful assessment of student needs and experiences at NHS, the high school teachers and administrators determined that the goals of Needham's 1 to 1 initiative were best met with a laptop that is better suited to the high school learning experience.

The device we have identified is a Chromebook since it provides immediate access to all of the web-based tools and applications that are at the heart of our teaching and learning. We also want to ensure we are providing sturdy devices that will handle the hands of students throughout their high school careers. The Chromebook we will be providing is an Asus C202 (or equivalent) with the following specifications:
  • rugged case
  • 2 USB ports
  • 16GB Storage
  • 4GB RAM
  • 1 HDMI port
  • 1 card reader
  • audio jack
  • 180-degree hinge
  • AC plug/adapter

Should you prefer to purchase a laptop or Chromebook for your child, you are certainly encouraged to do so. Please note that tablets will not allow the needed access to all websites and materials; a laptop is required.  If you choose to provide your own device, here are the minimum requirements:

  • battery life of 7+ hours
  • screen of at least 9 inches
  • student knowledge and proficiency of device
  • full keyboard
  • access to Flash
  • up-to-date Chrome desktop web browser
  • sturdy case/construction
  • USB port
  • Microphone and camera
  • wireless capability
