A parent or guardian may request that a student not participate in physical education activities for one physical education class due to some minor ailment or injury.
If the student experiences a significant illness or injury and is unable to participate in physical education or sports for an extended period of time, written medical documentation is required. This documentation must state the reason for the excuse and the duration of the excuse.
Excuses should be delivered to the health office. The school nurse will then process a physical education waiver and send a copy to the appropriate physical education teacher. In the case of sports, the health office will notify the athletic trainer. The student is responsible to contact his/her physical education teacher to discuss alternative arrangements.
If a student is injured or ill and cannot participate in his/her physical education class, he/she is also unable to participate in sports.
Additional medical clearance is required before the student returns to physical education or sports.
