HEALTH OFFICE UPDATES AND REMINDERS 2022-2023
We’re excited to be back in the building and looking forward to seeing everyone soon. We have some information and updates as we start our re-opening process.

  • If your child requires daily medication or needs to have emergency medications at school please contact the health office. We will set up appointments for medication drop off a couple days before the start of school. Please email us to set up a med drop off appointment and please be prepared with your child’s medication in a pharmacy labeled container and completed the Parental Authorization and Physicians Authorization forms. Those forms can also be found by going to the NHS website or the NPS website . Many of you should have received electronic copies of the appropriate forms for your child’s medication(s) from our health office in June.

  •   For students ( grade 10) submitting documentation of a recent in person physical examination, the exam is acceptable if it was conducted within the past years or within 120 days of the school start.

  • For students seeking to participate in athletics, an in person exam should be conducted annually, specifically within 13 months from the start date of practice/tryouts

Departmental News and Helpful Reminders

When a student is ill at school:
Any student who becomes ill during the school day must go through the Health Office to be released home. Parents will be called from the Health Office by both the student and the School Nurse. Texting or calling parents to leave the building without School Nurse permission will result in an unexcused absence.

Management of cold and flu symptoms includes high fluid intake and rest:

  • Students should be excluded from school if they have a fever (100 and over). Students may return to school after being fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications(Tylenol, Advil or Motrin) and feeling well enough to engage in learning. Students should stay home from school if they are actively sneezing, or have a persistent runny nose and/or cough.
  • Please contact your child’s health care provider if you have a concern about persistent fever and/or respiratory problems associated with the flu.
  • Cold and flu germs are passed by airborne respiratory droplets and by hand contact. Please encourage frequent hand washing, especially after using the bathroom, blowing or coughing, and before eating. Adequate hand washing should take about 20 seconds.
  • We are encouraging students to wash their hands more often at school, and it may be necessary to provide tissues for your son and daughter to use. Remind students to cough or sneeze into a tissue or their upper sleeve, not into their hands, to prevent the airborne spread of germs.
